The Museum of the Vresse School in Vresse-sur-Semois tells the fascinating story of how this village grew into a true Art Village. It all began in 1957 when José Chaidron, the owner of hotel-restaurant La Glycine, opened an art gallery. This initiative quickly attracted a number of talented artists, including the famous painter Marie Howet.
Over the years, the village became a favorite residence for hundreds of artists with different styles and backgrounds, creating what is now known as the Vresse School. The museum houses the collection of the Chaidron-Guisset Foundation, with more than 300 works, mainly paintings. Visitors can permanently admire almost half of this collection, supplemented by regular temporary exhibitions.
This unique location offers a fascinating insight into the artistic development of Vresse-sur-Semois and highlights the work of renowned artists such as Albert Raty, Johnny Schuddeboom, Jacques Vander Elst, Yvonne Tellier, and Milo Dardenne.
