Description

La Roche-en-Ardenne, now lying peacefully beside the river Ourthe, has an eventful past as the site of some important events in the Second World War. Its museum of the Battle of the Bulge takes a poignant look at this story.

In December 1944, the Battle of the Bulge was raging and the majority of La-Roche-en-Ardenne was destroyed, resulting in a large number of deaths.

Decades later, the martyred town has become known as the Pearl of the Ardennes and continues to look back on its past.

The Musée de la Bataille des Ardennes presents 1,500m2 of exhibitions in remembrance of these events. Dioramas, military vehicles, weapons, Enigma machine, maps, soldiers’ uniforms, photos, videos, etc. The collection covers a huge historical breadth and depth.

Don’t miss:

  • the replica of the famous Flying Fortress
  •  the weapons room;
  •  the soldiers room;
  • the wall maps detailing the stages de la Battle of the Bulge;
  • the videos from the time of the liberation of the town in January 1945.

A unique British collection

The museum also aims to highlight the role played by the British in the Allied counter-attack of 3 to 16 January 1945 and the liberation of the villages on the left bank of the river Ourthe. That’s why it has a one-of-a-kind collection flying the flag for Britain.

And, as an Ardennes-étape customer, you can explore this museum at your own pace and at a reduced price!
